Gagged by Google!!!

My adsense account got suspended today with this notice sent to me by Email:

[[[ It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on

– a publisher encouraging others to click on his ads
– automated clicking programs or any other deceptive software
– a publisher altering any portion of the ad code or changing the
layout, behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason
Practices such as these are in violation of the Google AdSense Terms

LMOL! Well they can keep their $5 a day the stupid thing generates but what the hell?

I suppose I do encourage others to click when I say (tongue in cheek) “please visit our sponsors” but isn’t that what Google (and the advertisers) want? As an AdWords customer I am baffled that Google would rather just charge for the ads that are ignored thousands of times a day than the 10 that actually get clicked on.

It’s possible that they make more money off the views than the clicks and they don’t want you to waste time clicking and reading some other web site when you could be ignoring 10 ads at a time that they get to charge for.

I certainly don’t use a clicking program nor do I have the expertise to change the layout etc. but I have, on occasion, checked out people who advertised on my page – in fact I have banned some as I found them to be particularly sleezy, perhaps this is how I came to Google’s attention as I just started banning ads this weekend after seeing some real scams advertised on my site.

Whatever the reason, I would go to any competitor of Googles and never go back to them after this obnoxious letter with no obvious way to appeal (and again, for $5 a day that they never sent me anyway, who cares).

But here’s the flaw in their plan. I own 2 companies, they use Ad Sense and Ad Words. I recommend it to friends and I am a fairly influential guy in my little circle and they have just severed a relationship with me in a way that guarantees I will never return to them nor will I ever have another good word to say about them…

This little obnoxious note probably cost them about $50k a year in business, not a good way to build customer relationships. I ask you – even if I wanted to amend my evil ways and keep using them, are they even leaving a door open?

If this were a store down the street, I would confidently predict it would be out of business in 18 months but we all know quality and customer service on the web are so awful that people are probably happy that they signed their shut off notice “Sincerely.”

If you haven’t had a chance, please read my article entitled “My Trading Policies”

My goal is to make this a useful perma link, like the Valero Rule so please feel free to comment and not the, good article, kind of comments – although they are much appreciated I can’t use it to grow…

I’m looking for more of the “What the hell are you talking about” kind of things so I can make sure we end up with a clear set of points for trading – think of it as a book in progress and you guys are my editors.

Thanks all,

– Phil
