The January Sixth Select Committee Chair, Bernie Thomson (Mississippi Democrat), and its Vice Chair, Liz Chaney, (Wyoming Republican) produced, directed, and staged the most riveting televised political hearing that most of us may ever witness. And if they gave awards for star performances, surely Cassidy Hutchinson would walk away with all of them for her dramatic rendition of a woman making a supreme effort to be completely accurate in describing what she witnessed at the White House and its environs during the insurrection.
Donald Trump’s Actions On The Day Of The Insurrection
Throughout her nearly two-hours of testimony, she struggled visibly to be certain to accurately describe what she had heard and seen with respect to the actions of President Donald Trump and his closest advisors on that strange and fateful day. As the chief assistant to Mark Meadows, the president’s trusted Chief of Staff, and situated just footsteps away from the Oval Office, Ms. Hutchinson was, literally, a witness to history. Until her sworn testimony, we had not yet seen or heard such a clear description of our “wartime president” orchestrating what his chief legal advisor had called for that very day – “a trial by combat.”

Perhaps the highpoint of her testimony was reporting what she heard and saw when Trump was holding his pep rally at the Eclipse. What apparently upset him the most was that the Secret Service was preventing hundreds of his armed followers from joining the crowd. She overheard him saying something to the effect of, “You know, I don’t even care that they have weapons. They’re not here to hurt me.” Perhaps not, but they sure were a threat to the Capital Police who were defending the Capitol.
Think about it: When he urged his followers to march on the Capitol and “fight like hell,” he was endorsing an armed assault on our seat of government while the presidential electoral votes were being counted. If that isn’t treason, then I’d like to know what is.
Cassidy Hutchinson had a front row seat when Trump was demanding that all his armed admirers be allowed to join the rally. This may have been the most significant revelation of her testimony. As long as he wasn’t in any danger, then who cares what happens to the Capitol Police defending the Capitol from his mob of ardent followers.
It will be very interesting to see if Trump labels Ms. Hutchinson a liar and declares her testimony fake news. But we can surely count on his MAGA crowd to do their best to ruin her life. After all, this is the land of the free and the home of the brave.
