On Wednesday, Elon Musk tweeted an encouragement to “subscribe to as many creators on this platform as you find interesting.” Musk wants Twitter, which is now known as ‘X,’ to become a super-app, and a big part of that is attracting, and keeping high-profile creators.
In his tweet, Musk also said he planned to ask Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, to change its policy on in-app purchases to only take “30 percent of what X keeps in order to maximize what creators receive.” Apple’s App Store takes a 30 percent cut of all in-app purchases and subscriptions.
It’s notable that Musk has also said Twitter, which is now known as ‘X,’ won’t take anything for the first year, and then only 10 percent once paying exceeds $100,000. In essence, Musk wants Apple to take nothing since X isn’t taking a cut of its own.
