The United States is facing its worse constitutional crisis since the American Civil War with the future of democracy in this country threatened by an increasingly authoritarian government led by Donald Trump. Issues surrounding the United States after joining Israel in the attack on Iran are only part of the crises.
The U.S. Constitution divides war powers between the Legislative and Executive branches of the federal government. Only Congress has the authority to declare war and only it can allocate fund for military actions. The President, however, is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces and he or she dictates when, where and how armed forces are deployed.
